Kipseli in RGB

A renovation of a typical 1960s apartment in Kipseli, Athens. Initially, the layout included an entrance hall, a living area, a kitchen, a dining room and a bedroom.

The intervention needed to address the layout of the 1960s era; clearly defined, consecutive rooms usually divided by sliding doors, in order to allow modern-day users to realise various living arrangements.

Thus, the entrance hall, dining room and living room are joined in an open plan arrangement. The entrance hall is turned into an open kitchen layout, facing the dining and living spaces. The old kitchen is converted into a bedroom or study, creating a second bedroom, in the new open plan arrangement which reduces divisions. In addition, every space is equipped with new storage units to accommodate today’s needs.

The project assigns structural properties to colour, accompanying the layout’s development. Through colour, geometric features are highlighted, following or framing the different uses within the open plan.
