Pine Garden

A small extension of 40 sq.m. in an old two level residence characteristic of the area. The ‘humble’ character of the initial building in combination with the original pine garden provide a place of peace and safety.

The extension aims to offset the boundary of the built enclosure to include the biggest possible part of the incredible surrounding garden, making it a part of the everyday experience of the residents. A lightweight structure, with use of metal and timber, is added to the north-west edge of the existing structure offering an unobstructed view and connection to the garden.

In the existing interior, small but significant functional changes are made, to ensure an overall improved performance of the building. Meanwhile, there is a chance for upgrading the efficiency of the envelope, facing the need for redefining and updating the initial balance between the built and the unbuilt.
